Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- A huge community study on the long range future of Moorhead Public Schools could be the framework taking the district through the 21st century.
Hundreds of you gave your input through written or oral surveys and tonight the school board got its first chance to hear what you said.
This study, that started back in December can now be used as a guideline for school board members to follow when making decisions.
Big decisions like what's being taught to your children and how the district should go about asking for money for new facilities.
900 residents filled out the online survey. Another 300 were interviewed by the citizen steering group conducting the study.
Results show parents want their children ready for the 21st century, asking the district to explore more diverse learning environments through technology and community experience.
The opposite of sitting in a class all day, reading from a book and doing worksheets.
Dr. Greg Vandal- Head of Long-Term Planning Project: "This is what the community has said the organization should do and it's up to you as policy makers to make some determinations about what you want to do with it."
Brian Mancini- Steering Committee Member: "As you use some of the feedback you've heard to drive decisions in the future, link it back to this initiative and let the community know you've heard their voice."
Communication was another big point. Parents want more information without having to go to the school board meetings.
They're asking for more news to be put out through social media.
