Commissioners are taking the first step towards a new City Hall

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- The first step is being taken by Fargo city commissioners toward building a new City Hall.

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- The first step is being taken by Fargo city commissioners toward building a new City Hall.

The commission approved tonight to start the site selection process. A citizen group is being formed to pick a location, and commissioners are urging the public for input.

The site will be selected by October 1st.

With the proposed timeline construction to the new facility would start in October of 2014.

Mayor Dennis Walaker- Fargo: "We don't want to build the Taj Mahal we want something that is functional and is going to last 50 years."

Commissioners tried to get a new city hall facility in 1989 and 2000.

City manager Pat Zavoral says "now is the time" because of extra funding coming in from the state.
