Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- A big mess still fills streets and buildings in Valley City after heavy rain last week.

The mayor compares the downpour to the flood of 1993. But he says it hit harder, bringing about 5 inches of rain in just 1-hour.

Buildings like city hall and the fire station were flooded, and are now in the process of water and carpet removal.

4th Avenue South West, near the college campus, was one of the worst spots, and is still shut down after mud and boulders came rushing down the road.

Bob Werkhoven- Valley City Mayor: "We're breathing a little easier now but it was quite an experience getting that much rain in that short of time"

The mayor says he hopes the city is back in good shape by the middle of this week.
