Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- Tonight, as WDAY marks 60 years, a look back at a Fargo abduction case, that tonight, still has pieces of the puzzle missing.

It was late June of 1993, that 11-year old Jeanna North disappeared from her north-side neighborhood.

Her body was never found. But the man suspected of killing her is serving time for the murder.

Those grainy home movies of a bubbly 11 year old Jeanna North still haunt our community. Those tense and unsettling days 20-years ago this week, when our community braced itself and organized an all out search for the north side girl.

Missing posters went up. Authorities searched the neighborhood, even the river. What Jeanna's parents did not know, the eventual killer lived among them.

A neighbor, Kyle Bell, convicted child molester, would 19-months later, confess to molesting Jeanna, killing her, and dumping her into the Sheyenne river.

John Goff 1998- Former Cass States Attorney: "Investigation is now closed, we do not have any leads to follow up on."

Despite no body, Kyle Bell went to prison for her death. This is the latest picture of him. Jeanna's mother Sue, who openly talked of her struggles with depression and alcohol after the loss of her daughter died in 2009. Jeanna's father, John still lives in Fargo.

Jeanna's sister simply said, Jeanna would have gone far, she would have done something special.

Bell is in a federal prison in Tuscon, Arizona. Because of the Jeanna North case, sex offender registration laws are tougher.

And because Kyle Bell escaped from a transport van 3-weeks after arriving in prison, Congress tightened standards and requirements for private transport companies.
