MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Xcel Energy crews are working to restore power to the hundreds of thousands of customers who lost electricity over the weekend.

The website for the Minneapolis-based utility says about 94,000 customers had no power as of early Sunday afternoon.

Over 500,000 Xcel Energy customers in Minnesota and western Wisconsin lost power at various points in three waves of severe thunderstorms from early Friday to early Saturday.

Utility executives say 1,000 line workers would be working 16-hour shifts until all power is restored. Xcel says it expects to restore power to the vast majority of its customers by Wednesday.
