DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) — Former State Board of Higher Education chancellor Hamid Shirvani had glowing remarks for at least one university president in the state.

Shirvani was sharply criticized for his evaluations of 10 university presidents in North Dakota, including the presidents of University of North Dakota and North Dakota State University.

But Shirvani had positive things to say about Dickinson State University president D.C. Coston.

The Dickinson Press reports (http://bit.ly/11GUW2j) Shirvani said in his evaluation that the efforts of Coston and his colleagues "have been nothing short of remarkable." Shirvani said he was impressed with Coston's leadership and attention to details.

But the evaluation has been basically rendered meaningless. The board decided not to approve the evaluations and placed Shirvani on administrative leave this past week. His contract had earlier been bought out.
