MOORHEAD – Moorhead police said today that the man who was found dead at his home on Wednesday night died from "trauma by homicidal violence" and asked for the public's help in finding his missing cane.

Police also officially released the identity of the man as Henry Andrew Volochenko, 87.

A written statement released by Deputy Chief Shannon Monroe stated that the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office has determined Volochenko died as a result of "trauma by homicidal violence."

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension remains on the scene at Volochenko’s home at 1209 Main Avenue in Moorhead to process the crime scene, the statement said.

Authorities are asking for the public’s help in reporting any information connected to the crime or possible suspects.

At a 3 p.m. news conference, police said they're asking for residents in the area to search their properties to see if there are any objects there that don't belong.

In particular, police said they are looking for Volochenko's missing cane.
