Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - If you're one of the many the multi-taskers among us, you may rely on your smartphone to keep everything straight. Losing your phone and all the precious information on it could be devastating. But before you panic, there's and app for that.

Many of us have been there. The panic you feel when you realize you can't find your phone. And with smartphones, holding our schedules, pictures, all of our music and apps, it's about a lot more than just not being able to make a phone call. One download can help you end the panic.

If you have an Android, the simple SMS Alarm app can help you track down your phone even if you have it silenced. SMS Alarm is activated when you send a text message to your phone. In that message you send a word you've chosen, then the app over-rides your phone's silent setting and you hear this…

The alarm, hopefully bringing you right to your phone. You can even set how long the alarm will last, up to two minutes.

Apple has similar apps. We looked at "Find My iPhone". It's similar to SMS Alarm as it plays a sound for two minutes at full volume (even if your device is set to silent).

But some added features on Find My iPhone. It helps you locate your missing device on a map, can remotely lock your device, or erase all the data on it and even display a custom message on your screen.

You'll want to use these apps soon after you lose your phone because once the battery is dead, you're out of luck.

Both apps are free.
