Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- The banks of the Red are going green in Fargo.

Community members of all ages headed out to Dike East for "Reforest the Red".

Volunteers took part in a tree planting event. Complete with digging, mulching, watering, and planting more than 1-thousand new trees to line the river.

Event organizers say the trees will help improve bank stability, encourage more green growth, and improve water quality.

Jeff Haberman- Fargo Parks Forester: "You know there's families out here, I mean there's single and couples of people, so I just think that this is a good opportunity to give back to our community."

The Fargo Park District, City Forestry Department, River Keepers, and Cass County Soil Conservation District put on the event.
