Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - It was a close call for an intoxicated man this morning, dodging a train seconds before it nearly struck him.

It all happened near 17th Street and Main just after 9 this morning. Originally authorities believed the man had been hit but they would find a much different scenario when they arrived on scene.

Fargo Police say the conductor saw someone sitting on the tracks so he hit the emergency brakes and tooted the horn. Authorities say that didn't seem to faze the intoxicated man on the tracks, instead he turned to wave. With only seconds to spare, he rolled off the tracks before being struck.

Sgt. Kevin Pallas, Fargo Police Department: “Not being aware of his surroundings, whether he knew it was a train track or whether he thought it was somewhere else. Unfortunately someone who is intoxicated is just not thinking clearly.”

The man was taken to detox. Trespassing charges are pending.
