ASHLAND, Wis. (AP) — Two people have died in a plane crash on Madeline Island in northwestern Wisconsin.

The Ashland County Sheriff's Office says the crash was reported just after 6:30 p.m. Saturday. La Pointe police responded and within five minutes found the plane engulfed in a heavily wooded area about 150 to 200 yards south of the airport runway. The newspaper says the weather was good at the airport in Ashland, about 15 miles southwest of the crash site.
