Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- It's a real-life love story. A Perham couple, together forever until their very last days.
After 66 years of marriage, Leo and Deloris Klinnert died last week, within just days of each other.
Family invited me to the wake this afternoon. There, I over heard the word miracle over and over. And all eight children say they expected their parents to stay together even until death.
Margaret Palan-Daughter: "Mom and dad did everything together."
The life-long romance began at the Becker County fair. Leo and Deloris would marry in 1946.
Little did they know, kids would come, decades would pass.
Palan: "Everything was about family, there's 8 of us. Four boys, four girls, set of twins, identical."
And after the two were through taking care of their children. Their children would have to take care of them.
Deloris was diagnosed with cancer just a year and 8 months ago.
66 years into their marriage she would die.
John Klinnert-Son: "That's a lot of years, that's a lot of year."
But not before her husband.
Palan: "My dad has prayed for this."
Leo would pass away just six days before his bride.
Klinnert:"When you share time together with people, you're going to live longer."
Palan: "Now, she said I'm done, I'm done. Now, I can go, now I can go."
Something, Leo had wished for
Palan: "That would be the best, that would just be the best."
So the life-long romance could live on forever.
Palan: "We've often said, wouldn't that be something. Wouldn't that be their dream, to go together and dance their way into heaven. And they got it."
Tomorrow, Deloris and Leo will be laid to rest, side-by-side during a very rare-double outdoor funeral service.
