West Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A first of its kind event is about to add a little color to West Fargo. Technically it's adding color to the runners taking part.

It's called "Run or Dye.” That's D-Y-E. During the 5K you're doused with dye and finish looking like a rainbow. This concept has people sprinting to take part.

How far does the power of color reach? Take running. Could it really make running fun?

Angela Goehring and Michelle Keil are back from Las Vegas after taking on their first Color run. Notice the wigs, the color will stain blonde hair for a few days.

Angela Goehring, Color Run Participant: "I remember looking at myself afterward in the mirror and I said ‘Why didn't anyone tell me I've got powder coming out of my nose?’"

These runs are blowing up. All around the world people are filling the events and getting smacked with color dye while running a 5K. The dye is powdered cornstarch and they literally have people throwing it at you.

Michelle Keil, Color Run Participant: "It was like this big cloud of dust all over that you were like ‘Whoa’ when you got up to it because you didn't know if you wanted to breathe it in."

It's so hard to get into the Minneapolis event, the group chose Vegas. And for the first time, the metro will host a version of this. "Run or Dye" is two weeks from Saturday. The latest big hit during America's push to get fit.

These tough mudders are just as popular. It's an obstacle course through mud. A version it is this weekend in West Fargo.

This event is called Illumi-night. A 5K at night time, and glo-sticks add the fun. That'll happen in downtown Fargo in September.

Goehring: "Anytime you can find something different it's what draws the runners in."

You pick it, Run or Dye or run and get dirty, either way everyone who takes part says you'll run and have fun.
