New York Mills, MN (WDAY TV) - Making the state tournament is becoming a habit for the New York Mills baseball team.

This year marks the Eagles' third straight tourney appearance. Mills takes a 19-and-2 record into its quarterfinal matchup Thursday. Last year, New York Mills' only loss of the season was a 1-0 defeat in the state quarters. They expected to be back again and, just like last year, aren't shying away from what they think they can do at state.

Shane Novak, NY Mills Senior 2B: “We're not afraid to tell our people our goals and our goal is to win the state tournament. Pretty sure that's been most of our goal since 7th-8th grade to take the team down and win it.”

Tyler Patron, NY Mills Sr. P/1B: “This year we should do better, hopefully. Last year, we shoulda been in the state finals and won a state title but this year we'll prove to everyone that we're a state championship caliber team.”

Chris Bushinger, NY Mills Head Coach: “The way I'd describe this team is that it's a group that's had success since they've been very young.”

New York Mills quarterfinal game is against the Floodwood Polar Bears.
