Mott, ND - A 19-year-old Mott man died Monday afternoon from injuries he sustained in a farming accident.

Mike Wehri, who recently completed his freshman year at North Dakota State University, was reportedly spraying a field approximately 2 miles north of Mott when he “hit something electrical,” Hettinger County Sheriff Sarah Warner said.

The accident caused power outages for Montana-Dakota Utilities Co. customers in Mott, Regent and New England, said Mark Hanson, the senior public relations representative for MDU Resources Group.

“We did have a piece of farm equipment that made contact with our (overhead) line,” Hanson said, adding that power was out to those communities for about an hour.

The Hettinger County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the accident, Warner said, and hopes to have more details within a week.

Wehri was working for Mott farmer Stan Blickensderfer.

Wehri was a 2012 graduate of Mott-Regent High School, where he was an all-region lineman for the football team and exceled in FFA, speech and drama.
