Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- Tourism coordinators in Western North Dakota are teaming up, and trying to eliminate a stigma some may have about the oil patch.

The group is on a media tour throughout eastern North Dakota and western Minnesota.

They say the main misconception is that there's no hotel availability.

Williston has added more than 1,000 rooms in 3 years.

Terri Thiel- Dickinson Convention Visitors Bureau: "We had just an influx of workers coming in that infrastructure couldn't keep up, but now with some of the things completed and more hotels are done the availability isn't as tight as the last few years."

The group says despite what's reported, crime doesn't resemble the old wild west, and most cases are isolated, not random acts of violence.
