Jamestown, ND (WDAY TV) - Researchers are trying to solve the mystery of the dying carp in Jamestown Reservoir.
During the last several days, thousands of dead carp have been found floating and on beaches there. It is still unclear what is causing the deaths. Game and Fish tells us, it is unusual for carp to die off in huge numbers like this this time of year.
A special lab in Bozeman is doing a test on some of the fish to determine if it is a virus or something else.
BJ Kratz, ND Game and Fish: “The timing of the year is a little different because usually this happens when the temp is higher, not cool like they are now.”
Preliminary results from tests sent to the Fish Health Center in Montana are due back sometime next week.
