Emerado, ND (WDAY TV) - In Emerado the problem is overland flooding.

Roads and homes near the school got the worst of it last night, when hay from nearby fields clogged up culverts.

The townspeople worked quickly, using sump pumps to get it under control. They say they're lucky they ended up with only a few inches of water in their basements.

Jake Lanes, Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Deputy: “And it rose up over the road about calf deep and some places about knee deep.”

Tony Hanson, Emerado: “It broke, basically, so all the water came rushing in off the field. Overland flooding, it got really deep really fast and was all over the place.”

Emerado authorities say residents should limit water use and prepare for more flooding if rains continue.
