Weather service says 3 tornadoes touch down in North Dakota

BOWMAN, N.D. (AP) — The National Weather Service says three tornadoes touched down Monday in the southwestern corner of North Dakota.

BOWMAN, N.D. (AP) — The National Weather Service says three tornadoes touched down Monday in the southwestern corner of North Dakota.

Weather service meteorologist Nathan Heinert tells KFGO that the twisters were rated as weak, with wind speeds between 65 and 85 mph.

Heinert says funnel clouds reached the ground in open country near Bowman, Rhame and Golden Valley. The only damage reported was at a ranch near Rhame, were several large trees were downed.

Connie Gaebe, who lives 3 miles west of Bowman, tells the Dickinson Press she spotted a tornado from town while her husband, Randy, saw it from their farm.

She says the twister was followed by rain and pea-sized hail, "but nothing destructive."
