Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- One trip down Broadway in downtown Fargo today and there is a good chance you heard the romantic accent of an Australian, European or Central American tourist.
We host major conventions and conferences throughout the year, but this weekend, the metro area is home to the "Fargo Misfit Conference."
Patrick Strahan is a blacksmith from Ireland. Marcella Chamorro-an author from Nicaragua. Israel Smith-Australia. Just a few of the faces of the first ever Misfit Conference.
Why Fargo 50-eager, deep-thinking, successful men and women from around the world.
AJ Leon- Misfits Conference Organizer: "I think what brings us together is a desire to live a deliberate life to do work that truly matters and a desire to know that maybe this world can be different because we inhabited it."
AJ and Melissa Leon of New York brought their conference to Fargo after falling in love with our city during a visit after seeing the movie Fargo.
Leon: "Take a walk on this strip, more art galleries than in my neighborhood in the east village. It is out of proportion the creativity to population."
The goal of the conference? Listening to successful entrepenuers who not only build profitable businesses, but make an impact gloably or locally along the way. That doesn't mean working 24-7 for a Fortune 500 company. It may mean leaving the corporate world.
Israel Smith- Australia: "My wife and I reached a point business was too much, was not seeing my family, depression, burnout we wound it back."
There were bloggers, podcasters, kickstarter experts, authors, doctors, IT gurus and more, all prepared to learn from each other, by coming to Fargo's Misfit Conference.
Patrick Strahan- Ireland: "We inspire each other and that is part of it, observe what others are doing to make a difference in life."
At a time when so many of us are caught up in busy schedules, waiting for paychecks and counting the hours til Friday, this group of dreamers heard from one speaker who told them the purpose of your life is to create a body of work, you are proud of.
AJ Leon's book: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF A REMARKABLE MISFIT is due out this summer.
