Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- Today is the official last day of corn planting season. But many local farmers still have a long way to go.

Though the dry fall helped counteract the long winter, this extremely rainy spring soaked the soil.

Some farmers may still be planting through next weekend.

The longer they have to wait, the higher the chances are they will lose a percentage of their yield.

Adam Spelhaug- Peterson Farms Seed: "The earlier the better, you just lose a percent of yield as you go on through May. We've had pretty good yields, I've put corn in May 28th before and have had close to 200 bushel of corn. So, if we get the right summer and the right weather throughout the rest of the year you can still get a good yield."

Adam Spelhaug at Peterson Farm Seeds says soybean supplies are doing well if any farmers are looking at switching from corn to soybeans.
