Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - So much rain fell too quickly and it was hard for our infrastructure and sump pumps to keep up.
In West Fargo, DOT crews had to shut down exit ramps off of Interstate 94, after rising water covered Sheyenne Street with several feet of water. Cass 17 was closed most of the day.
In North Fargo, city crews manned 12th avenue, where heavy rains swamped that busy road as well. Some people trying to get to the industrial park for work ended up with stalled cars. Fargo Police and Fire had to help those who got into trouble while trying to get through the deep water.
Public Works tells us the significant rainfall was too much for the drainage system to handle. DOT officials don't recall a time when exits and Sheyenne had to be closed an entire day.
Chris Myhre, NDDOT: “There have been a few instances in the past, but for the most part everything has been able to keep up just one of those heavy rains.”
Sheyenne reopened at 3:30 this afternoon.
