Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - It's typical this time of the year to hear the buzz of mosquitoes and the recent rainfall is only helping multiply the bugs.

Standing water, like these puddles in Lindenwood Park, are the perfect breeding ground.

Ben Prather, with Cass County's Vector Control says within a week or so the mosquitoes will be out, but there are precautions you can take.

Ben Prather, Dir. Cass Co. Vector Control: “Take the time to coat yourself in some bug spray before you head out on the golf course or dusk and dawn if you're taking those evening walks. You might start seeing mosquitoes biting here in a short while but definitely nothing that should drive you away from those activities if you take the necessary steps and precautions.”

Prather says DEET is the most common active ingredient in insect repellents.
