Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Police are searching for two men who robbed and shot a man in broad daylight near a Fargo gas station.
The victim was brought to Essentia Hospital with a non-life-threatening injury to the leg.
It happened behind this Loaf n Jug on South University around 4:30 today.
The parking lot here is empty now, but is used by Essentia employees during the day and was a busy area around the time of the shooting.
An afternoon trip to the convenience store for cigarettes landed one man in the hospital. As he left this South University Loaf ‘n Jug, two men approached the victim, shot him in the leg and took off with his wallet.
Sgt. Chris Helmick, Fargo Police Department: "Very unusual circumstance to have this happen during the day in an area that's heavily-traveled."
A friend picked up the victim and brought him to this mobile home in the Countryside Trailer Court.
Neighbor Linda Dier was walking home from a nearby daycare.
Linda Dier, Neighbor: "I walked over and I saw some guy laying there, so I went in closer and his leg was bleeding."
Police and an ambulance showed up shortly after and took the victim to Essentia Hospital for treatment.
His injuries are not life-threatening.
Jennifer Francis, Neighbor: "It was pretty scary because it's a first time and there are so many kids here, and it's like oh my god. I can't believe this happened."
Police say this is the first incident like this to happen in this area. They are investigating whether the victim knew his attackers.
Helmick: "If there's a concern for the public to be at this point in this neighborhood or any other stores in the city, my instinct at this point is there is not."
The suspects are two black males, last seen driving off in a Blue Tahoe. Police are looking at surveillance video from the Loaf ‘n Jug and trying to locate anyone who may have seen what happened to shed some light on this crime.
