Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- Things will soon be changing for those of you dealing with or contacting the City of Moorhead.

After a number of complaints, the City Council is planning to overhaul the entire organizational structure of "City Services."

A system that hasn't been modified in 11 years is in for some major changes. Councilman Mark Altenburg is behind the push.

Mark Altenburg- Moorhead Councilman: "We lost sight really that we need to serve the people of Moorhead."

Altenburg says he has received several complaints of people complaining of how they've been treated by city employees.

Altenburg: "They call into the wrong department, they get transferred, they'll get transferred again, and then they'll get hung up on."

One of the biggest issues lies with the Community Services department. Right now the department overseas parks and rec, housing and neighborhood services, planning, zoning, and business development.

Altenburg: "It's too many things for one department and they don't all speak the same language."

With a new proposed structure departments would be divided up.

There are other council members on board, but Mayor Mark Voxland isn't completley sold on the idea of the overhaul.

Mayor Mark Voxland- Moorhead: "If there is a personnel issue, or if there's a customer service issue, I think those should be addressed."

But Voxland says looking at a new way to improve things isnt a bad.

City Manager Mike Redlinger is in the process right now of looking at two other cities models. He now has 45 days to come up with a plan that would work for Moorhead to present to the council.

Altenburg hopes to have a plan in place by late June, early July. A solid plan will need 5 votes to be passed.
