(WDAY TV) -- Throwing the javelin is just part of being a Hoplin, Red River's John Hoplin won his 2nd consecutive state title on Saturday with a personal best toss of 198 feet, 7 inches.

John's older brother Paul won 3 state titles in the event before competing at the University of Minnesota, and John says his brother had a lot to do with his own success.

John Hoplin says, " I mean he won it more than me. He kind of introduced it to me, so I have to thank him and thank my coaches also because it's all about them. I had a lot of competition out there this year. I definitely had to save it for my last throw. So, it was kind of scary. But, both years were a lot of fun."
