Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- A scary scene in the Red River in Fargo-Moorhead overnight. A middle aged woman had to be rescued from the freezing, raging water.

The incident happened south of the downtown High Rise around 2:30 this morning.

Police got a call from the woman as she was in the water, needing to be rescued. They found her downstream, hanging onto a post.

Firefighters from Fargo and Moorhead were both called to respond. They walked down a ramp and pulled the victim into a rescue boat.

Larry Schuh- Fargo Asst. Fire Chief: "We were concentrating in the rock area initially and then when we didn't see her, we figured she went downstream so we started walking downstream and then we spotted her with a flashlight, hanging onto the post."

The woman was taken to the hospital as a precaution. She's believed to be okay. No word on why or how the woman fell into the Red River.
