Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Four new members of the MATBUS team were dressed to the nines in downtown Fargo today. No, not new employees - new busses.

"Busses in Black Ties" welcomed four new state-of-the-art hybrid busses into the metro. The Flyer Xcelsior busses will soon be part of the MATBUS fleet.

Passengers get a quieter, smoother ride and the busses hold 80 people, the largest busses in North Dakota.

Julie Bommelman, Transit Administrator: "I think the importance of the hybrid can't be stressed enough, and everybody always asks, 'what's a hybrid?' Well, basically it runs on diesel and electric. It's a much more efficient, cleaner-running vehicle."

The hybrid busses use 30% less gas than the current fleet.
