St. Paul, MN (WDAY TV) - A 4th grade field trip to search for fossils at a St. Paul park turns tragic after the ground gives way.

One child died, one remains unaccounted for and two others were rescued and remain hospitalized. A gravel slide at rain soaked Lilydale Park trapped the children around 1 o'clock.

It took more than an hour to get three children out. The search for a fourth child continues.

Steve Zaccard, St. Paul Fire Marshall: “There is one more child missing. We don't know if he's there or wandered off but there is still one child unaccounted for from this group of children who were here exploring the park.”

The children were from an elementary school in St. Louis Park. A firefighter was also injured after a rock fell on his head during the search.
