Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Fire crews are investigating a blaze that destroyed a home south of Fargo last night.

This is what's left of the home at 404 River Drive South, in the Forest River neighborhood. It was called in as a chimney fire a little after 9 o'clock. Crews worked through the night and returned this morning to put out flare ups.

The homeowners say they built the home themselves and had been using the chimney all year without a problem. Fire officials are still trying to figure out what exactly went wrong.

Ryan Hegel, Horace Fire Chief: “We did have a rekindle this morning on the back garage that was collapsed. We ended up bringing a private contractor in with a backhoe to remove some of the debris away.”

Hegel says this was one of the Horace crew's top ten biggest fires.
