Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- The devastation in Oklahoma hits close to home for those in Wadena. That community is still recovering from a 2010 tornado, which also destroyed a local school.

People here in Wadena can, in many ways, relate to what is going on in Oklahoma right now. And every time they hear of a big tornado like this, it takes them back to that day almost 3 years ago.

Wayne Wolden- Wadena Mayor: "Instant flashbacks to the place I was in and the feelings I felt, the emotions and just the look of tragedy on people's faces."

In June 2010, an EF4 tornado ripped through the center of town, taking down several homes, rows of trees, and the local high school.

Besides the sheer devastation, the next few days also brought home break-ins, scam-artists claiming to be contractors, and a media circus.

Wadena Mayor Wayne Wolden says he sympathizes with those in Moore, Oklahoma, where national media swooped in before the dust had settled.

Wolden: "You really start to resent folks, cameras, and people walking around, gawking. But on the flip side of that, the quicker you get the word out, the more quickly help arrives."
