Fargo ND, (WDAY TV)-- If disaster strikes here in the Valley, Fargo schools say they're prepared. Each year, the district is required to perform 3-hazmat or tornado drills to practice for the real thing.

Every school has its own procedure.

But the drills teach students to keep away from windows, and seek shelter, in places like bathrooms or locker rooms.

And if a tornado would hit a school, staff would be ready.

Jim Frueh- Director of Maintenance and Operations: "We have class lists that we would provide. And have a place where we would re-unify everybody. And we would find out who would be missing and from that point I'm sure there'd be search and rescue to find those people."

Severe weather alerts also play a big role in keeping the district safe.
