Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) -- It didn't take long for a major construction project in Moorhead to cause some big headaches.
2 accidents in the construction zone today, and the project hasn't even "officially" started.
Sig Laser/Driver: "You can't work in this weather."
Mn-Dot has big plans for Moorhead. So far, they've been washed away right along with all of this rain.
Wesley Megnell/Driver: "They don't want to be standing out in the rain working."
Still, traffic is stalled and people are impatiently waiting. So, what gives?
Wesley Megnell/Driver: "Slows everything down when you're trying to get somewhere, Obviously."
If crews can't start because because it's too wet. And we're only expected to get more,
Jerimiah Moerke/Minnesota Department of Transportation: "We did get a slow start today."
why block off the right lane?
Moerke/Minnesota Department of Transportation: "We wanted them to be able to get right out there and start working when the weather did allow. Unfortunately, that just didn't happen."
Right now, about four blocks are detoured. From the Veterans Memorial Bridge, to 8th street on Main.
Wesley Megnell/Driver:"Busy all the time."
We tested the time it would take, and it took a good two minute to cross the bridge. Coming back without the cones, only 30 seconds.
Sig Laser/Driver: "I think you have to do it, it's what we pay our taxes for."
And In just the first 24 hours, two accidents, just like this one.
Wesley Megnell/Driver: "Makes everybody's life harder to get somewhere but it's stuff that's gotta be done."
So, fasten your seat belts and hold on tight, it's going to be a long ride.
This construction project is scheduled straight through September. Crews did take down the detour temporarily until the rains lets up.
