Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- The 9th Fargo marathon weekend is now in the bag, another year of more than 20-thousand runners.
And of course this morning kicked off the more competitive side.
It was another marathon event full of inspirational stories, and outstanding champions.
The 26.2 mile men's marathon had some drama. Kenya native James Kirwa led after 22 miles.
But, that's when 2010 Fargo marathon champ Chris Erichsen of Minneapolis, pulled in front and stayed their for good, winning in a time of 2 hours, 20 minutes, and 42 seconds.
The women's champ also hales from Minnesota, Northfield's Nichole Porath won her 3rd marathon since the start of January turning in a time of 2 hours, 50 minutes, and 55 seconds.
Northfield's Nichole Porath- Women's Full Winner: "My training schedule has been a little rough, so, I just wanted to run a good race and be happy. I wasn't necessarily trying to defend my title or anything like that. But, it worked out that way. My PR is 2:44:00 and I finished in 2:50:00 today. As it became warmer I could kind of tell that 6:30s I'd have to be happy with."
Both of those first place finishers, earn a $1500 dollar prize.
