Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Unless you are a firefighter, you may be wondering how you can help those fighting these wildfires.

The most important thing to do is avoid adding to the problem. Follow any burn restrictions that are in place to keep more fires from starting.

To help displaced families, you can donate to the local Red Cross, who is providing food, shelter, and other services. Monetary donations are ideal.

Sean Coffman, American Red Cross: "We don't take in-kind donations, regularly, primarily because it's difficult for us to move those gifts that you've donated to those residents who have been displaced by the fire."

The Red Cross is also urging people to download the American Red Cross Wildfire App. It talks about preparedness, shows where wildfires are, and locates shelter sites.
