Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Firefighters may finally be winning the battle against a wildfire in Hubbard County.
The fire started Tuesday afternoon and has grown to more than 7,000 acres. It's near Park Rapids and Menahga. At its peak, the fire was eight miles long, and a mile-and-a-half wide.
Fire crews have bulldozed a line around most of the fire perimeter and attacked hot spots with water-dropping planes and helicopters, plus the crews on the ground.
Forty fire crews have been fighting the fire. Some of the flames are reaching the tree tops.
Tonight, highway 71 has re-opened but visibility is still difficult.
Jeff Edmonds, Fire Information Office: "There have been 12 residences burned, 12 houses lost and 41 out buildings which could be barns, chicken coops or sheds."
