County commissioners approve a School Resource Officer

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- An armed deputy could be roaming the halls at Hawley and Ulen-Hitterdal School Districts next fall. This morning, county commissioners approved a proposal to hire a School Resource Officer.

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- An armed deputy could be roaming the halls at Hawley and Ulen-Hitterdal School Districts next fall. This morning, county commissioners approved a proposal to hire a School Resource Officer.

The Sheriff's Office has been looking into an SRO since 2007, but it wasn't feasible until now.

Chief Deputy Matt Siiro, says federal grants available after the Sandy Hook Tragedy, are helping make it possible.

Chief Deputy Matt Siiro- Clay County Sheriff's Office: "It's more than just having an armed deputy in the school, it's really about creating a relationship with students, faculty and staff."

Chief Deputy Siiro says the school districts will have the final approval of an School Resource Officer at their next meeting.
