Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- It hasn't been the kindest of offseasons to the FCS; two of the powerhouse programs decided to move up and then came the news that the Big 10 would no longer schedule games against the former 1-AA starting in 2016.

That directly affects NDSU, since the Bison are slated to play at Iowa

that season.

Now there are no mandates from the conference about playing FCS; and NDSU may have some advantage since the Hawkeyes AD is Gary Barta; former Bison quarterback who explained his thoughts about keeping NDSU and other FCS teams on the schedule.

Gary Barta- Former Bison Quarterback: "Northern Iowa historically they've beaten many Big 10 programs as has North Dakota State; we look at what's the best schedule; what's going to be best for fans prepare us for the Big 10 when we've played Northern Iowa games come down to the wire. This change we're all looking at contracts in place; going forward no more FCS schools; those on schedule we'll either move them off and talking about Northern Iowa we've talked about an exception but it's no done deal based on they're located in our home state."

Barta added that if the FCS teams have comparable rankings as to a 1-A school then the matchup could likely stay. NDSU will be paid 500 thousand for the matchup with Iowa.
