Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) -- One local couple says they've been waiting for this day.
Come this August, this courthouse could be mighty busy. In fact, I spoke with two women tonight, who say they plan to put their relationship in writing as soon as it's legal.
Celeste Carlson/Plan to Marry:"This has been a long time coming."
Celeste and Amber have been together for nearly six years. They have two beautiful babies.
Carlson/Plan to Marry: "I birth them. Amber adopted the children."
And until Minnesota said yes to them, they couldn't say I do to each other.
Carlson/Plan to Marry: "It's a really big deal. This marriage amendment passing in Minnesota, is huge for us."
For these two, it's a no-brainer, they'll be married by fall.
Carlson/Plans to Marry:"Amber promised me, that when it became legal, that we could go in jeans and flip-flops. So, it's going to be casual, whatever it is."
Amber Allebach/Plans to Marry: "This will hopefully go through nationwide, soon."
Legally, they'll be wives, and equal for the first time.
Allebach/Plans to Marry: "We're just like everybody else, we're just like everybody else. And it's going to be okay."
They'll be allowed to share health benefits, legal rights and finally the same last name.
Carlson/Plan to Marry:"I guess we just wait until August first."
The bill still has one stop, the governor's desk. Mark Dayton is expected to sign it into law.
