Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- Signs of the flood are coming down--one levee at a time.

The latest work going on is near Fargo's Lindenwood Park. Contractors are digging up and loading the tons of clay that was put down to protect that area near the river.

It is expected that the heavily traveled road will be open late Wednesday or Thursday. Those at the nearby St. John preschool are happy to see the levee go, but are grateful for its protection.

Jana Bruhschwein, with St. John's Preschool, says, "and that is so important with kids, they knew they were safe and taken care of so we are thankful that we had these community helpers who kep us safe from this time even if the water did not get as high as predicted."

There are still dikes to come down near Oak Grove, the VA and 32nd Avenue north.
