Detroit Lake, MN (WDAY TV) -- When warm weather hits, construction season is soon to follow. Tomorrow, MNDOT begins a big project along the busy highway ten in Detroit Lakes.
Construction season may hold up travel plans but it also holds up traffic getting to businesses all along highway ten.
For some, it's about being in the right place at the right time.
Rich Dimmen/Business Owner: "Lots of traffic."
For this antique shop owner,
Dimmen/Business Owner: "They're going 70, you gotta get em to go woah!"
his location is darn near perfect.
Dimmen/Business Owner: "Tourists."
Rich Dimmen's business sits right along highway ten, just West of the heavily traveled Detroit Lakes.
Dimmen/Business Owner: "Only problem is they're going 70 mph, so getting them to stop is a little hard."
But when these double lanes, turn to one, he claims these speed demons will turn into coasting customers.
Dimmen/Business Owner: "For me, slowing them down could help cause then they have more time to actually see what's out here."
Problem is, this project isn't just short term.
Jerimiah Moerke/MN Dot: "This is a pretty large project. It's about an 8 mile stretch of highway ten."
Construction is planned clear through July.
Moerke/MN Dot: "It'll be a much better road surface from DL, heading west towards Audubon and Lake Park."
Dimmen/Business Owner: "It might be good cause it'll slow em down, they won't be going 70. Hopefully"
the timing couldn't be more perfect.
And drivers, you might want to be careful, if you're caught speeding in a construction zone your fines can double.
