Hawley, MN (WDAY TV) -- Dozens of rescue horses have taken shelter in Hawley over the last few months. But today, The High Tail Ranch and Rescue is one step closer to finding them a home.

It isn't the road these guys trotted in on,

Amber Larson/Adopting a horse: "I've probably seen it all about now."

But the family they'll go home with that's important.

Larson/Adopting a horse: "it's just a new beginning for everybody."

Not too long ago, 25 horses joined the Rescue Ranch physically and emotionally starved.

Charlotte Tuhy/The High Tail Ranch and Rescue: "We've seen some pretty tough ones. Skeletons, you see every rib and every bone in their body. And we had a draft horse for example, that we put 500 pounds on in the first ten days that he was here."

Larson/Adopting a horse: "it's traumatic for everybody, I think."

And it's taken a toll, financially.

Tuhy/The High Tail Ranch and Rescue: "Ferrier care and other things that pop up."

Today, that all changes. A handful of hopefuls set their eyes on available adoptions.

Tuhy/The High Tail Ranch and Rescue: "It's awesome".

But the most important part, they say, is exposure, and spreading the word that help is here.

Tuhy/ The High Tail Ranch and Rescue: "Fall in love with them when you work on them then it takes a lot to trust them to someone else."
