Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- Local food shelves are getting tons of donations today, thanks to letter carriers.

Today was the National Association of Letter Carriers 21st annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive. In addition to the regular staff, many employees volunteered their time.

Picking up bags on non-perishable food items left by mailboxes across town.

Joe Cusher, letter carrier, says, "They are always looking for food and this is a great of the year for us to do it, because in the summer months they dont' have a lot of food coming in. We do it because it's a good public service and people need it."

Last year, the food drive collected more than 28 tons of food.
