Grand Forks, ND (WDAY TV) -- More than 17 hundred UND students graduated today at the Alerus Center.

North Dakota Lt. Governor and UND alumnus Drew Wrigley opened up the ceremony with a message of perseverance. About 6,000 friends and family members were on hand for the celebration.

UND Spokesman Peter Johnson says the graduates are off to a great start in life.

Johnson says, "Our message is congratulations. You did a great job. You've got a great future ahead of you. We hope that many of you will spend it here in the state of North Dakota and that many of you will continue to go on to higher education wherever it is. Never stop learning."

Johnson says UND's enrollment this year is the largest ever.
