Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - One of the hardest things to do in sports is to win when everyone expects you to and that's exactly where the NDSU softball team finds itself this week; the top seed for the Summit League Tournament and playing on its home diamond.

Opening play this afternoon against Kansas City, a team they didn't play during the regular season.

NDSU fell behind 2-0 in the first after two throwing errors, but in the 2nd, tied the score. Brandi Enriquez doubles to the fence, driving in two, game was tied at two.

Move to the 4th, Maritza Lopez-Portillo rips a solo home run, her 6th of the season, giving the Bison a 3-2 lead. They later extended it to 4-2.

It got scary in the 7th, though, down 4-3, KC loaded the bases with one out but Whitney Johnson struck out the final two batters of the game to preserve the win, 4-3 final.

Darren Mueller, NDSU Head Coach: “I think that it gives our players a lot of confidence that they can go into a tournament and win that game. In a way it's back to that if we lose tomorrow we are still playing two games. I'm just happy for our young players. They seemed really excited with the outcome. All the hard work to know that they can come through in a tournament and win a game.”
