FARGO – Police arrested one of two suspected car prowlers early Thursday in an area of south Fargo that Sgt. Jared Crane said has been “a real problem” when it comes to thefts from vehicles.

A witness reported to police at about 2:18 a.m. that two people appeared to be trying to break into vehicles in the 1500 block of East Gateway Circle South, Crane said.

Police arrested one of the suspects, but the other one got away on foot, he said.

Garren Russel Gallant, 22, of Fargo, was arrested on suspicion of attempted unlawful entry to vehicle, drug possession and marijuana possession.

Crane said it appeared the suspects were able to enter only one vehicle, which was unlocked.

“That area is always being hit by car prowlers and burglars alike,” he said. “It’s been a real problem for us.”

Police have conducted extra patrols in the area, but Crane said that "certainly the most effective way for us to catch these guys is by the citizens calling it in."
