West Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A unique way of teaching and learning for area students is gaining attention from lawmakers.
State Superintendent Kirsten Baesler and others toured the West Fargo STEM Center. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
It allowed them to see the innovative way of teaching and thinking, first hand. In math class students were planning a waste water treatment center for an imaginary town.
Kirsten Baesler, State Supt. of Public Instruction: “Is that it was much more than just math concepts. They were solving problems, stating problems doing research to solve a problem and then incorporating math skills. So they were communicating, they were using science they were using math.”
Baesler says she is enthusiastic so many students continue learning and collaborating without a teacher during their lunch and recess.
