Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- A move that we've been hearing about for the better

part of a year became official this afternoon as one of the crown jewels

of the Summit League; Oakland University announced they are leaving this July for the Horizon League.

NDSU fans will always remember Oakland after the epic showdown between the schools in the 2009 Summit Basketball final.

The Golden Grizzlies enjoyed back to back NCAA tourney trips in 2010 and '11 and consistently were a top draw when they traveled to Fargo; but head coach Saul Phillips knows this is a business move.

Saul Phillips- NDSU Men's Basketball Head Coach: "We're going to miss some of the games we had, we had some real classics. There's no question about that. That being said they didn't make any bones about being unhappy in this league basically since we arrived. I appreciated the competition and thought both schools brought out the best of each other on the court. Somebody else will take their spot, I don't know when. But, somebody else will take their spot. Oakland hasn't been happy since the tournament moved to Sioux Falls. They've done nothing but complain about it and you know what? That's their prerogative. They did what they had to do. The Horizon league is a terrific league. I understand it geographically. We'll move ahead, we'll be fine."

The Summit League released new schedules to its members today; meaning likely just 14 conference basketball games and a bye for the top seed to the tournament.

Phillips added that one of his assistants; Jason Kemp has left to be an assistant at Toledo, Kemp had been on staff for 6 years.
