Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- A morning grab and go theft lands a man in jail and it turns out he is no stranger to the law.
It started here at the Petro Travel Center here on 19th avenue south just after 5:30 this morning. The Suspect 25 year old Abdi Abdullahi allegedly went into the store to buy something. When the clerk opened the register he grabbed money and ran.
Employees got a good description of Abdullahi's vehicle. Abdullahi headed North on 45th street. Officers spotted and followed the vehicle to Interstate 29 and Main Avenue.
He then ditched the car and fled on foot to the north. Fargo, West Fargo and NDSU police set up a perimeter around the area and used a police dog to track the suspect into the industrial area north of the tracks. Police arrested Abdullahi just before 6:30 a.m.
Deputy Chief Pat Claus- Fargo Police: He is a suspect, we did not arrest the gentleman on the theft charge, as we will long form that and send it to the States Attorneys office however, he was arrested for resisting a police officer.
In January Abdullahi was arrested in connection with a string of similar grab and go thefts at convenience stores in Fargo and Moorhead. An 84-year old Fargo man was initially arrested for being the driver and was later cleared. In Febuary he pleaded guilty in Cass County District Court to a misdemeanor theft of property charge in connection with those thefts. He received a suspended sentence and 30 days credit for time served. Police say people committing the same type of crimes isn't rare.
Claus: Past behavior is often a good predictor of future behavior.
Police are looking to see if Abdullahi is tied to the robbery on Sunday at Bjornson's Oil.
