Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- As summer creeps closer, bringing days by the lake or at the pool, kids across the metro are learning the latest in water safety.
The YMCA of Cass and Clay is offering safety day as part of their swim lessons. And this time, kids can actually leave their speedo behind.
Each swim lesson session here at the Y contains at least one water safety course.
Brendon: "Well, we kind of learn just some safety tips on what we should do if a friend or family member is drowning."
Lydia: "We had to pretend we were drowning and someone had to save us."
The catch, most of these kids were not just wearing swim trunks, but entire outfits. Learning how to blow them up and float with soaked clothing weighing them down.
"It's hard to describe it."
Lydia: "if you're wearing a full outfit, it's really heavy, but if it's just a shirt or something, it's really light."
So come lake season, if they fall in the water, they'll be ready.
The YMCA offers lessons for swimmers of all ages and abilities.
